This piece was written on Lanzarote. There are several famous bodegas on this Canary Island that attract many tourists because you can enjoy fantastic food and wine there. The morning after such an experience, I had the idea of the chord progression and the somewhat tricky picking pattern that is used throughout this piece. For me, the melody almost inevitably arose from this progression. Be patient with the rhythm of the picking pattern - it's tough. As always, practice makes you progress, so it's never a good idea to give up too soon. If you like Latin American sounds, you'll learn important skills for the right and left hand that can be transferred to other samba-like pieces.

Lesson 1Introduction

Duration: min

Let me introduce you to the topics covered in the course "Stratvs".

Lesson 2Performance

Duration: min

Here you can see the complete piece with the camera focused on the melody and the improvised guitar solo.

Lesson 3Chord accompaniment

Duration: min

Here, I explain the picking pattern and the chords in detail.

Lesson 4Intro lick

Duration: min

I'll show you the melody of "Stratvs" in digestible bites. Here I'll explain what melodically happens in the intro.

Lesson 5Theme part 1

Duration: min

In contrast to the accompaniment, the melody of the theme is kept quite sparse. By leaving room, it gives the chords the space that they need.

Lesson 6Theme part 2

Duration: min

As the theme continues, the pauses become shorter and the melody spirals upwards.

Lesson 7Theme part 3

Duration: min

In the final lick of the theme there is one of the three D minor sound clouds in the song. To master it, you have to practice them. It will pay out!

Lesson 8Solo Part 1

Duration: min

I originally improvised the guitar solo and would always do it that way, but I watch myself quoting more and more licks from the original solo every time I play this piece. I can now play the whole solo by heart and recommend that you do the same 😀

Lesson 9Solo Part 2

Duration: min

This is the virtuoso part of the solo, in which even 16th note triplets are used in some cases. Don't be afraid to tackle these licks (which I explain in detail in the video), because they show you important guitar techniques that you can transfer to other playing situations.

Lesson 10Bridge

Duration: min

In the middle part of the piece there are melodic lines that fit the theme, but with variations, which form a nice contrast to the rest of the piece.

Lesson 11Final part

Duration: min

In the final part, the theme is quoted first. Then a final D minor sound cloud brings the piece home. Have fun practicing!

Lesson 12Jamtrack

Duration: min

You can practice both the melody and the accompaniment with the jamtrack. You can use the tempo tool of the player to set the tempo that feels right for you. Have fun!
