"Autumn" was initially published as a workshop in the magazine "Akustik Gitarre." After a lot of interest in more such pieces, the music book "On Stage" was published in 2007, containing 20 of my fingerstyle solo guitar pieces. The publisher "Acoustic Music Books" has kindly allowed us, as jazz-school.de, to show the most popular piece from the book here and explain it in detail.

Here I do a playthrough of "Autumn". I explain all the important points to keep in mind in the following videos.
In the intro, you'll find some exciting open-string chords typical of this composition. They allow for close-harmony-dissonances that would otherwise be unplayable on the guitar.
The theme deliberately recalls the melody of "Autumn Leaves."
The B section develops the ideas and climaxes the tension, after which the piece calms down again.
